Hopkins, the original owner of this rifle was a noted big game hunter from Spokane, Washington. He ordered the H & H Nitro Deluxe Express from the factory in 1959, the build order from Hopkins included gold triggers and extensive engraving, done to his specifications. Hopkins supplied Holland & Holland with photos of game animals to be used to create the engraved pictorial panels on the sides of the rifle. Hopkins was a veteran hunter, according to the consignor, using this rifle on over 11 safaris, each averaging nine months apart. He was always searching for an elephant with tusks weighing 150 pounds each. This animal was thought to be mythical by his Professional Hunters, one of whom was the famous Stan Lawrence-Brown. Mr. Hopkins was also well known for the popular O.K.H. cartridges he developed with Charles O'Neil and Elmer Keith. Some of the more powerful versions were the .285 Wildcat, the .333 O.K.H. and the .475 O.K.H. The famous white hunter Reggie Destro was a proponent of the .475. Hopkins used this rifle for many years, finally consigning it to Abercrombie & Fitch in Seattle. It was purchased by hunter Ricky Coghlin. Coghlin, who suffered from an eventually terminal disease, traveled with hs mother on many hunting adventures abroad, using the rifle to bag many big game trophies. The rifle was given to hunter Alan Harvie by Mrs. Coghlin after her son's death. The present owner acquired the rifle from Mr. Harvie
